How to compare Medicare HMO Advantage Plans.
When you are enrolling on Medicare Part A and Part B and want to compare the Medicare HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) Advantage Plans Part C that are available to you, there are several things you need to consider.
- Do you want to keep your doctors, hospital, preferred pharmacy, and medical group? If you do, you should follow these guidelines.
- List your doctors, names, and addresses. Many doctors today have several addresses, and the medical group may not apply to the address you normally visit. Select your primary care physicians, the PCP will determine the medical group, which will be the doctors your PCP will refer you to.
- List your prescription drugs. Use the full name, many have two names, the dosage, and the frequency. Example: Lovastatin/niacin extended release, 25 mg, once daily. Each plan has a formulary listing the drugs covered and at what cost.
- Preferred pharmacy, such as CVS or Walgreens. The drug plan may have lower prices for some drugs due to the pharmacy you select.
- If you have a medical group that you wish to stay with, make sure you include the medical group when signing up. Many Primary Care Doctors belong to several medical groups.
- If you would like to see Medicare Advantage Plans in your area and live in one of the following states, just tap on the state: Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, or Washington.
