You have a 7-month window to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan which is your ICEP (Initial Coverage Enrollment Period). This includes 3 months before you are entitled to Medicare Part A and enrolled in Part B, the month you are entitled to Part A and B, and 3 months after you’re entitled to Part A and Part B. You must have both Part A and Part B and live in the service area of the Advantage Plan you are enrolling in. There is also the OEP New (Open Enrollment Period New) which is 3 months. It includes the month you were entitled to Part A and B and two months after. You can make a one-time change to another Advantage Plan or dis-enroll and obtain coverage through Original Medicare without a stand-alone Part D. From January 1 to March 31 you have an OEP (Open Enrollment Period) which is when you can make a one-time change to different Advantage Plan or dis-enroll and obtain coverage through Original Medicare with or without a stand-alone Part D. There is a SEP (Special Election Period) which you can make a one-time change for situations such as moving out of the service area of your plan, or qualifying for a specials needs plan, or dual-eligibility or LIS-eligibility. Annually there is the AEP (Annual Election Period) which is between October 15 to December 7th each year. You can make as many changes as you like, however, the last change prior to 12 midnight on Dec 7, that is submitted, will be the change that will take effect January 1.
